Plastics are classified according to their use, and are mainly divided into three categories: general plastics, engineering plastics, and special plastics.
·General-purpose plastics mainly refer to plastics with large output, wide application, good formability and low price. There are mainly five varieties, polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS)
·Engineering plastics generally refer to plastics that can withstand a certain external force, have good mechanical properties, high temperature resistance, low temperature performance, good dimensional stability, and can be used as engineering structures. ·Special plastics refer to plastics that have special functions and are used in special fields such as aviation and aerospace. Such as polyether ether ketone (PEEK), polyether sulfone (PES) and so on.
In fact, in the industry, the dividing line between general plastics and engineering plastics is not so clear. For example, ABS, this material has many grades, some grades are general-purpose, and some grades are engineering.
Taking ABS as an example, the ABS produced by LG can be divided into:
·General ABS: grades HI121H (high impact resistance), HG173 (high gloss)
·Transparent ABS: Trademarks TR558A, TR557 (universal transparent grade), TR551 (high hardness)
·Heat-resistant ABS: grades XR401, XR409H (high gloss), ER400 (low gloss)
·Flame-retardant ABS: Brand AF312A/B/C
In addition to the above, there are electroplated ABS, scratch-resistant ABS, ASA and so on. In addition, even if LG ABS of the same brand, the performance of Korean or Ningbo ABS will be different. In the actual production of the manufacturing industry, the requirements for plastic classification are quite detailed.
